I really enjoyed watching this film and thought it had a strong message about human kindness and compassion. It portrays a young kid who wants to rebel and decides to hang out with an older group of kids who are violent and anti social and have a pack mentality. He gets to experience what it is likes to be included in their gang and it's not what he was expecting it to be. He ends up doing a prank for them by entering old man's home to steal his walking stick, but he hurts his foot badly in the process and ends up being treated kindly by old man even though he broke into his house. Overall it is a story about the UK today with feral teenagers that are angry and cruel portraying the worst side of human nature and old man that responds to this with compassion and caring. The film "Ryan" is a moral story for our time.
I would love to do a BA (Hons) Filmmaking course, because film is my passion and it has already become a huge part of my life. I am very clear that my career will be in the film industry. The two areas that are of interest to me are camera work and editing. Working as a cameraman is both unique and exciting, because one can be so creative when filming people, objects and scenes. Editing is also fascinating because you can manipulate footage to create a story, or a film.
I am really interested in the Filmaking course at Manchester because of it's practical focus that will give me the experience of working in production teams and developing the ability to express concepts and ideas through film. I am especially interested in cinematography and believe this course will help me develop the set of skills I need to build a career in the media industry.
I worked for Portsmouth Live for a couple of months, popping in when they need help. I edited about six videos and the links are below to each video. I also, did some multi-camera work and filmed some live events for them.
I did this short advert for college coursework. I created a TV ad for the brand Kit Kat. This is advert is about a sterotypical nerd who goes to college and gets picked on by bullies. In this advert, you see him buying two Kit Kats. The nerd character hands a Kit Kat to the bully which plays on the theme "Have a break, have a Kit Kat". The advert is supposed to be a bit "tounge in cheek" and not to be taken too seriously. This work was completed as part of a team.
